It’s Fantastical Food Fight time again and this month it’s a
sourdough throw down!
I made my very first sourdough last summer and it was amazing,
so I was super excited to give it another shot and try for a bit more carving!
I used the exact same recipe from the Kitchn’ because there’s
just no messing with perfection (well, at least at this point when I’m still
getting used to sourdough – I’m sure there will come a time when I start
tinkering).
Last time I made sourdough, I got super overwhelmed about the
sheer amount of starter I had on hand so I used it up right away and didn’t keep
it going.
This time, I vowed, I would keep my starter going. I made this gorgeous bread (first we had some with stew, then we made avocado toast…more on that in a minute). Then I got brave and made sourdough pancakes. They were good, but not “gotta blog it good”. So I knew I wanted to give it another try, but not right away, there’s only so many pancakes one can eat in a short span of time.
So I maintained my starter for a few days, and then forgot to
feed it, then remembered for a few days…and forgot again, and then it got all dried
out and weird. And I couldn’t tell if it
was normal dried out or if it had taken a turn, so I had to dump it (boo).
Thankfully, I had already made my avocado toast (and I still
haven’t made more pancakes (sourdough or otherwise) and it’s been almost a month!) The avocado toast was amazing and everything
I’d hoped it would be! And it was
definitely my lunch for the week!
Yum! Now I need to make more starter,
so I can make more sourdough, so I can have more avocado toast!
Sourdough Avocado Toast
1 thick slice sourdough bread
Butter
Sprinkle of garlic powder
1/3 ripe avocado, sliced
1 large pinch sesame seeds
1 large pinch poppy seeds
1 small pinch dried minced onion
1 small pinch dried minced garlic
Salt & pepper
Preheat the broiler on the oven. Butter the bread and sprinkle with garlic
powder. Place the bread on a pan and
broil for 1-2 minutes or until the bread is toasted.
Place avocado on the toast, and
sprinkle with the herbs. Serve
immediately.

Your loaf looks amazing with all of those lovely holes!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous loaf of bread. I love avocado toast. I actually have an alarm set on my phone to remind me to feed my starter LOL
ReplyDeleteI love avocado toast- and on sourdough! :) Great breakfast on the run.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks so good. I think I need to make another loaf, after I make the waffles, pancakes, bread, rye bread. Good thing starters can be an on going thing.
ReplyDeleteLooks so fantastic! I store my sourdough in the fridge and bring it out to feed it when I want to use it. Usually a couple days in advance.
