Steak Fajitas

This week’s Sunday Funday Theme is Sizzler Platters.

I must be honest here.  I didn’t even know what a sizzler platter was and had to look it up.  A Sizzler platter is a cast iron or aluminum pan in which a meal is cooked with an accompanying wooden platter for serving, so food comes out sizzling.

In my experience, I’ve seen sizzler platters used in restaurants to serve fajitas, so that’s what I decided to make today.

I don’t own a sizzler platter, so I used my cast iron skillet and a wooden cutting board as a approximation.

The fajitas were tasty, sizzling, and great with homemade flour tortillas!

Steak

¾ pound sirloin steak, sliced thin

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

¼ teaspoon dried oregano

Veggies

1 tablespoon oil

1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

To Serve

Flour tortillas

Avocado

Cheese

Place the steak, 1 tablespoon oil, and spices in a bowl and stir to mix, set aside to marinate for 10 minutes.

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.  Add the onions and peppers and stir fry for 3-4 minutes or until crisp-tender.   Remove from pan and place in a bowl.

Heat another tablespoon oil in the same skillet and turn the heat to medium-high.  Add the steak strips and cook until browned.

Once the steak is cooked to desired doneness, add the peppers and onions back to the skillet.  Cook for 1-2 minutes stirring to mix and heat through.

Serve hot and sizzling with tortillas, avocado and cheese.

Serves 3-4

  1. Fajitas were the only sizzler platter with which I was familiar as well and I did those last time we had this theme LOL....this time I made it easy on myself and went with a meal platter instead.
