Mamma Mia!
It’s already time for Food ‘n Flix
because I’m getting in early this month.
This month’s movie pick (chosen by my friend Wendy at A Day in the Life on the Farm) is Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
This movie is a sequel to a movie
I wasn’t terribly impressed with, yet, I’m always willing to keep an open
mind. Mamma Mia 2 was one of the 3 Food ‘n
Flix movies I watched while on the plane to Disney World back in January! The other two were Book Club (I made Cheesy Spinach& Chicken Soup) and Crazy Rich Asians (I made a double header – Homemade Wonton Wrappers and Ginger Pork Pot Stickers).
I have to admit, I was rather flummoxed
by Mamma Mia 2. Large sections made no
sense at all. After the fact, I started
to wonder if the airplane version of the movie was perhaps heavily edited to
remove some of the saucier scenes? I don’t
honestly know, since these movies aren’t really up my alley to begin with, I
had no to desire to seek out the DVD version of the movie to see if it make
more sense. It’s not to say the movie was
terrible, because it wasn’t. I just
really have a hard time relating to movies with infidelity as a major plot
point.
That being said, it’s time to
think food. I honestly had a very short
list when I was done watching and I wasn’t overly inspired by what I’d written. I thought about making Greek food, but was
equally uninspired.
Over and over, I kept going back
to my favorite scene in the movie…or rather…favorite song: Andante! It is such a pretty song and sung so
beautifully in the movie!
And of course, there isn’t a speck
of food to be seen in that scene.
However, it does take place in a bar!
So, I got to thinking, maybe a fresh, fruity drink inspired by the
beautiful island that is the setting of the movie would be the way to go!
I had a dusty bottle of Moscato hanging
around (I’m much more of a dry red fan, why I even had Moscato is beyond me!) So, I decided to make a fruity, simple
Moscato Slushie using only 2 ingredients!
It was delicious and perfect and I obviously only had enough to make 1
big serving (hence the two half-filled cups and then the “sure it’ll fit” over
flowing cup!)
But I totally had to use my Star
Wars cups! First of all, it was just
Star Wars day and I’m a huge fan, and second, all these men are falling for
Donna (like, immediately) and it’s totally a Leia and Han “I love you”, “I know”,
only in reverse (Donna is Han in this scenario).
Anyway, this is the perfect summer
drink (Moscato fan or not), plus I think Donna would have approved!
Strawberry Moscato Slushie
1 cup well chilled Moscato
1 cup frozen strawberries
Combine ingredients in a mini
blender. Blend until smooth. Serve.
I think that is the perfect recipe for the movie. Thanks for joining me this month.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Especially with the Star Wars tie-in! :) I know it's not a cinematic masterpiece and I usually hate musicals, but for some reason I found both films just darn cute.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great post, Amy. That rendition of the song definitely stayed with me, too. I recently listened to the original version and thing I prefer Lily James' version. Thanks for playing along even though it wasn't your cup of tea.
