This month’s Food ‘n Flix is hosted by Chef Sarah Elizabeth
who chose the 80’s classic, Dirty Dancing.
Would you believe that I had never seen Dirty Dancing in its entirety
until now? I was somehow under the
impression that it was about a dance competition (uh, no) and found that I
quite enjoyed the movie!
I’m not going to rehash the movie here, because I’m guessing that
most have seen it (or aren’t interested) plus I’m terrible at writing
synopses.
Anyhow, I was inspired by the iconic phase “I carried a
watermelon”.
Because yeah, isn’t it just typical to say something idiotic
in the presence of someone you want to impress?
I was equally inspired by this video that’s been floating
around facebook for the last few weeks:
Ice cream in watermelon?!?
Whaaaat?
I definitely had to give it a whirl. I thought about making a homemade ice cream
to fill the watermelon (especially now that I’ve master no-churn ice creams),
but Hubs was out of town, the kids flat out said no to a fruity ice cream and I
was feeling pretty lukewarm about fruity ice cream too (chocolate or
nothing!!), so I decided to stuff my watermelon with some vanilla caramel
gelato I had in the freezer.
Ideally, the watermelon should be frozen before stuffing, but
if you have time management issues, so simply don’t want to wait, freshly cut
watermelon works as well.
I absolutely loved the creamy vanilla ice cream against the
fresh fruity watermelon!
It is super messy to eat, but a very fun treat!

Wow. I never had tried a watermelon in this way. However, I will try to mix the vanilla ice cream in watermelon with the same way as you did to see how it tastes..!! Thanks for sharing the best idea.

I would have never thought to have ice cream with watermelon. Glad you enjoyed the movie and your creative recipe.
ReplyDeleteChocolate or nothing - I agree! Ice cream with watermelon sounds fabulous! We do watermelon with whipped cream and that is amaze, so frozen cream would be even better I bet!
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought of this either and I love how you cut this in wedges to help the messy-quotient. What?!?!?! You had never seen the film???
ReplyDeleteI have seen these around...it's perfect for the movie. Looks so good...and yeah messy :-D
