So, I decided to join yet another new food blogging
club.
This one is called Fandom Foodies. Each month the theme is inspired by a
different geeky fandom from games, books, movies, and pop culture in
general! This month, Katharina from Pretty Cake Machine chose the hashtag #Nyanuary!
That’s right, this month is all about the cats!
So what to choose? All
sorts of my favorite books and movies have cats in some way. Harry Potter has Crookshanks, Garfield is
classic, Mickey Mouse has Figaro, and on and on…
In the TV show Big Bang Theory, Sheldon demands that Penny
(or one of the other characters, but most often Penny) sings “Soft Kitty” to
him when he’s sick.
But how could I make Soft Kitty into a recipe?!?
Then I thought, well, Sheldon isn’t always sick. Sometimes he’s upset, and when a friend is
upset, the customary convention is to offer them a hot beverage (preferably
tea.)
And sometimes he’s angry, which requires hot cocoa. And yet other times he’s verging on despair,
and needs Apple Cider with a cinnamon stick.
Yes. Definitely needed
to make the cider happen.
Except that I’m really more of a Penny than a Sheldon, so my
cider needs to be boozy.
Therefore, Apple Cider Sangria! Omigosh, it is sooooo good! The additional of a little ginger ale and
fireball added this hint of warm spices that make the sangria sing!
Apple Cider
Sangria
1 bottle pinot grigio wine
2 ½ cups apple cider
1 cup ginger ale
½ cup fireball whisky
4 large apples, diced
Pour all of the ingredients into a pitcher. Stir in the apples. Refrigerate for 1-4 hours and serve!
Thank you!
