It’s the last day of #CookoutWeek ad today is all about the
fun kid-friendly desserts! In fact, my boys
had a hand in making or decorating every one of these desserts!
They often see me decorating cakes and they always want to
lend a hand (usually they don’t get to), so whenever I can (especially at
holidays) I make an effort to make some super fun desserts that they can make!
First off, the Patriotic Cookies! These were Spud’s creation. He saw something similar at the grocery store
and begged and begged for me to buy them.
Instead, I bought some red, white, & blue M&Ms and we went home
and made them instead, using my recipe for the Best Cookies Ever and pressing
extra M&Ms onto the top of the cookies directly after baking.
Next up, we have Dude’s creation. After seeing Spud’s cookies, Dude wanted to
make cupcakes. I made a batch of my
favorite Chocolate Cupcakes and let him do the decorating (we kept a few and
sent the rest to work with Hubs!)
Then, after having leftover Oreo batter from a different cake
project (they’re Mario Kart Cupcakes, you gotta check them out!), I baked a
star cake. I frosted the cake and piped
a border and gave the boys free reign to decorate. Didn’t they do a great job? I love it!
Shall we shift to something a bit healthier? How about Patriotic Fruit Popsicles? Spuds found this recipe in his Highlights
magazine and was so excited when I agreed to make them!
We also have individual Fruit pizzas (here’s my recipe, just
cut individual circle cookies instead of rolling out the batch). I feel like these are a nice compromise between
healthy and sugar bomb. Except that the
kids love to decorate these and leave the fruit behind when they eat them!
Last, we have Patriotic Crinkle Cookies! The kids have a great time stirring in the
food coloring and rolling the dough balls through the powdered sugar!
What are your favorite patriotic recipes? Maybe Patriotic Pie? Or Sangria?
