I was recently at one of my favorite local restaurants when
my eyes happened upon a Guinness Burger on the menu. Now, I generally don’t order burgers at
restaurants because they have a tendency to undercook them and I really can’t
handle undercooked ground beef. But I
did decide to pull inspiration from the restaurant and made my own version at
home!
Marinating the meat beforehand really gave the Guinness a
chance to blend with the meat lending an amazing depth of flavor. Plus, you can’t go wrong with cheese,
Guinness caramelized onions, and sriracha mayo to top!
It’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
Guinness Burgers
Marinade/Beef
1 lb ground beef
2 cloves garlic, smashed
2 tbsp onion, minced
6 oz Guinness
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
Caramelized
onions
1 ½ tbsp. butter
1 large yellow onion, sliced thin
1-2 tbsp Guinness
Sriracha Mayo
2 tbsp mayo
1 tsp sriracha
To finish
Whole wheat buns
5 slices provolone cheese
Place the beef, 2 tablespoons onions, garlic, and Guinness in
a bowl. Mix lightly so as much of the Guinness
is touching the meat as possible. Cover
and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
Meanwhile, make the caramelized onions. Heat the butter in a large skillet over
medium heat. Add the onions and cook
until they reach a deep amber color. Add
1 tablespoon of Guinness and cook until it evaporates, repeat with more
Guinness, if desired. Set aside.
Whisk together the mayo and sriracha.
Preheat the grill.
Pour off any remaining marinate from the beef and
discard. Mix in the egg and
breadcrumbs. Portion the beef into 5-6
patties, creating a small divot in the center of each one to ensure even
cooking. Grill until completely cooked
through.
To serve, place the burgers on a toasted bun slathered with
sriracha mayo. Top with cheese and
caramelized onions and serve.
These sound great! Love fact that the beef gets marinated in the beer. And so fun to pull inspiration from restaurant menus! :)
