I’ve made a red/pink pizza dough in the
past. And while I still love that
recipe, I often want pizza to be a quick meal (and therefore forget to start
the dough early enough!) So, I thought
it was high time we had a super quick (less than 15 minutes) flatbread pizza
dough with all that lovely color and nutrition that comes from beets!
Seriously, I am in love with the color
that pureed beets gives to dough. Love. It!
Honestly, you can do wrong here…Valentine’s Day or not.
Quick Beet Pizza
Dough
1
tbsp active dry yeast
1
cup warm water (around 115 degrees F)
1
tsp honey
1
tsp salt
2
tbsp olive oil
1 ½
cups all purpose flour
1 ¼
cups whole wheat flour
½ cup beet puree
Preheat the oven to 450
degrees F.
In the bowl of stand mixer,
combine the yeast, water, and honey.
Whisk to combine. Let the mixture
rest for about 2 minutes or until it begins to foam a bit.
Add in the salt, olive oil,
flours, and beets. Mix the ingredients
with the paddle until combined, then switch to the dough hook and knead on low
speed for 5-7 minutes or until the dough forms a smooth ball.
Turn the dough out onto a
lightly floured surface. Cut the dough
in half and roll into two thin rounds (or hearts for Valentine’s Day!)
Move to pizza pans coated
with a sprinkling of corn meal. Pierce
each round several times with a fork and cover with sauce, cheese, and desired
toppings. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until
the cheese is melted.
This is very creative! Thanks for sharing. =)
